Water Supply Options for Truro Town Hall and DPW

ABSTRACT

This study evaluates options to secure an alternative water supply well site for the Truro Town Hall and Truro Department of Public works (DPW). The Town Hall and DPW are currently supplied by a well located on the DPW property. This well is a non-compliant, Non-Transient Non-Community well1 with some water quality issues. For this reason alone, Truro should pursue a new well for Town Hall Hill.

The current well location also constrains any expansion of activities by the DPW, owing to well-protection setbacks required by the State’s groundwater protection regulations. Currently, the DPW is considering expanding its footprint. If the existing site adjacent to Town Hall is used, then a new water supply source is necessary.

The permitting requirements for developing an alternative water supply site can be complex, but a review of available data indicates that a nearby location is feasible and cost-effective.
